DESKDRIVE PRO

Our story

Built in a Driver's Seat in San Antonio

DeskDrive Pro started with one driver and a daily problem. Carlos Ayala drives for work in San Antonio, TX, and every day he eats lunch and does his paperwork right there in his vehicle.

So he built the board he needed: a clipboard that hangs on the steering wheel as a desk while parked, hides paperwork and a tablet or phone inside, holds his phone where he can see it, and keeps his pen in the frame.

Carlos developed DeskDrive Pro at 10BitWorks, with help from Don Smeller, who turned Carlos's ideas into CAD.

Where it was built

Developed at 10BitWorks

10BitWorks is San Antonio's largest and oldest community makerspace: a member-run 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, established in 2010.

For DeskDrive Pro it worked like an incubator. Carlos took an idea from his driver's seat to a working prototype using the shared shop tools there, with Don Smeller's help on the CAD.

Members get access to shops for woodworking and CNC, 3D printing and laser cutting, welding and metalworking, electronics, and ceramics and glass.
